The Project

Summit Conservation undertook comprehensive cleaning of Farmleigh House in Phoenix Park during late 2025 and early 2026, in preparation for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The works covered the historic stonework together with balustrades, parapets and painted façade areas — the full public face of the house.

Conservation Approach

Cleaning was carried out using the DOFF system, which combines low-pressure superheated water with careful operator control. It removes soiling and biological growth without saturating or abrading the stone beneath.

High-level balustrades and parapets — the most exposed and most heavily soiled elements — were cleaned using the same system, alongside the cleaning and preparation of the painted façade areas and the main entrance porch.

  • DOFF cleaning to historic stonework
  • High-level cleaning to balustrades and parapets
  • Cleaning and preparation of painted façade areas
  • Main entrance porch cleaning and preparation

The Result

The elevations, balustrades and parapets were cleaned and the painted areas prepared, presenting the house at its best for the period of Ireland's Presidency.
