Masonry

Brick & Stone Repairs

Stone replacement, salvaged stone matching, traditional mortar matching and crack stitching carried out by specialist masons.

Historic masonry fails slowly and for identifiable reasons — cement pointing, corroding iron cramps, water ingress, structural movement. We diagnose the cause before we repair the symptom, then carry out repairs in matched stone and traditional mortars that will weather with the original fabric.

What this includes

  • New and salvaged stone replacement, cut to original profiles
  • Matching of local Irish stone: granite, limestone, sandstone and calp
  • Traditional mortar analysis and bespoke lime mortar matching
  • Weather-struck, flush and tuck pointing
  • Structural crack stitching
  • Thor Helical reinforcement systems
  • Brick indenting and slip repairs
  • Breathable surface protection and shelter coats

Our process

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

Establish the cause of decay before specifying any repair.

  2. 02

    Mortar analysis

Sampling to match binder, aggregate, colour and texture.

  3. 03

    Stone sourcing

Salvaged or newly quarried stone matched for bed, grain and colour.

  4. 04

    Cutting

Banker mason work to original profiles and tooling.

  5. 05

    Installation

Set in lime, with stainless fixings where structurally required.

  6. 06

    Curing

Protected, controlled curing so lime carbonates correctly.

Benefits

  • Repairs that are visually indistinguishable within a season of weathering
  • Structural stability without hidden cement or resin
  • Reversibility retained for future generations
  • Extended service life of original fabric
